Organic Oxheart Tomatoes – 5 lb Box

1 × 5 lb Box · Harvested to Order · Ships Nationwide Oxheart tomatoes are valued for their large size, meaty texture, small seed cavities, and rich tomato flavor. Unlike many paste tomatoes, they are also tender and juicy enough to enjoy fresh. This combination makes Oxhearts particularly versatile. Their large slices hold together well for sandwiches and salads, while their dense flesh cooks down into a smooth, thick sauce without as much water or seed pulp to remove. What’s in the Box Approximately 5 pounds of freshly harvested organic Oxheart tomatoes. The box may include red, pink, orange, or yellow varieties depending on what is ripe and ready to harvest. Tomatoes will vary in size, shape, and color. Irregular shapes, uneven shoulders, and some natural cracking are typical of heirloom Oxheart varieties. Why Do People Like Oxheart Tomatoes? Oxhearts combine many of the best qualities of slicing and sauce tomatoes. They produce large, substantial slices for fresh eating, but their dense flesh and relatively few seeds also make them particularly good for cooking. When used for sauce, Oxhearts require less reduction than juicier slicing tomatoes and produce a thick texture with rich tomato flavor. Their large size also means there are fewer individual tomatoes to peel and prepare. What Do They Taste Like? Rich and full-flavored, with a meaty yet tender texture, balanced acidity, and gentle sweetness. The exact flavor will vary among the different Oxheart varieties included in the box.
