Narcissistic Control (Overcoming Narcissistic Control) ~ Subliminal

Overcoming Narcissistic Control — Narcissists believe they are the most important and that the world should revolve around them and their needs. When you spend any time with a narcissist, it is only too easy to start to believe this too—and if they are the center of the universe, then of course your needs are secondary. Narcissists do all of the taking in a relationship and can totally undermine your core values. You are an important person in your own right, with needs and desires of your own. Learn to believe in yourself again, to respect your own needs and values, and to regain control over your own life and the choices that you make. You are an important person in your own right, with needs and desires of your own.  End the need to please the narcissist and take control of your own life. Narcissism is defined as "excessive interest in oneself." The ancient Greek mythological figure Narcissus was famous for his preoccupation with himself. Upon seeing his reflection in a lake, he fell in love with himself and eventually wasted away because he would not stop admiring the mirage. Extreme narcissism can cross over into a mental illness called narcissistic personality disorder. The narcissist sucks the attention out of everything. They place themselves above everyone else. They think of themselves first, last, and always. As such, those who have been involved for one reason or another with a narcissist typically compensate by putting themselves second. Failure to do so may have often resulted in unpleasant penalties administered by the narcissist. Further, it’s not uncommon for a person to self-blame for failing to provide the attention and feedback the narcissist demands. Blame leads to guilt and shame and codependence. A circularity therefore becomes the way of life. That is, when the narcissist demands are not satisfied, and that generally is very difficult to do, one blames themselves, feels guilty, and for their own self-esteem, attempts to do better in order to win back the approval of the narcissist. Voila—the circularity for the cycle is repeated over and over again.  Guilt, blame, shame—all of these feelings that can make one feel inferior but they are not the product of who you are but rather the result of a narcissist manipulation in situations like this. Indeed, one anonymous writer put it this way, “Adult pathological narcissism is no more 'curable' than the entirety of one's personality is disposable.” If you’ve been mistreated in some narcissistic relationship, this program is for you.
