Orchid Frost Spotted Deadnettle

Orchid Frost Spotted Deadnettle (Lamium maculatum 'Orchid Frost')Orchid Frost Spotted Deadnettle is a bright, low-growing groundcover that helps shady garden spaces feel lighter and more finished. Its silver-green foliage gives it a cool, luminous look that stands out beautifully beneath shrubs, along paths, and at the front of shaded borders. This variety is especially useful where you want a groundcover that adds ornamental value even when it is not in bloom. In the right setting, it spreads into a soft carpet that brings color, texture, and a polished finish to the planting. Distinctive FeaturesOrchid Frost Spotted Deadnettle is prized for its silver-green foliage with dark green veining and its soft pink flowers. The leaves create a bright low carpet in shade, while the flowers rise above the foliage and add a gentle spring display that can continue intermittently beyond the main bloom period in favorable conditions. It forms a mat, generally about 6 to 12 inches tall and 14 to 24 inches wide, with trailing stems that root as they spread. Its foliage stays attractive through much of the season, which makes it especially valuable as a shade groundcover. Growing Conditions Sun: Plant in part shade to full shade, with some morning sun tolerated if the soil stays evenly moist. Soil: Grow in moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter for the best foliage quality and overall performance. Water: Provide regular moisture, especially during establishment, and avoid letting the soil stay dry for long periods. Zones: Hardy in USDA Zones 4 to 8. Habit: Expect a low, mat-forming, gently spreading perennial groundcover with trailing stems and silver-green foliage. Ideal Uses Groundcover: Use it to brighten shady beds and cover open soil with a low carpet of silver-green foliage and soft pink flowers. Focal Point: Place it in a visible shady pocket or container where the bright leaves can create a cool-toned seasonal highlight. Woodland Gardens: Add it to woodland-style plantings where its flowers and luminous foliage can lighten darker companions. Containers: Grow it in shaded containers where it can spill gently over the edge and add foliage contrast. Underplanting: Use it beneath shrubs and small trees where a low shade-tolerant groundcover is needed to knit the planting together. Low Maintenance Care Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist during dry spells to protect the foliage from scorch and keep the plant looking fresh. Trimming: Trim back wandering or tired stems as needed to keep the planting tidy and encourage fuller regrowth. Division: Divide or thin patches if needed to refresh older growth or expand it into new shady areas. Mulching: Apply mulch around young plantings to help conserve moisture and improve soil conditions. Placement: Avoid hot exposed afternoon sun, since too much direct heat can reduce foliage quality and cause stress. Why Choose Orchid Frost Spotted Deadnettle?
