Tempo Orange Avens

Tempo Orange Avens (Geum x 'TNGEUTO')Tempo Orange Avens is a compact, long-blooming perennial that brings warm, glowing color to the front of sunny borders and mixed containers. It starts early and keeps sending up fresh flower stems in waves, helping your planting look lively for weeks. The tidy mound stays tight and well-behaved, so it fills space without swallowing neighbors. If you want dependable spring to early-summer color with a clean, modern habit, this geum is an easy fit. Distinctive FeaturesShort, sturdy stems carry clusters of small, semi-double to single blooms that shift through creamy peach to soft orange tones as they open. The compact habit is designed to stay upright and neat rather than flopping, even when the plant is in full flower. Foliage forms a low, dense mound of green leaves that supports the bloom show and keeps a finished look after the heaviest flowering. In a border, the effect is bright and refined, with color that reads as warm without feeling harsh. Growing Conditions Sun: Full sun to partial shade, with the strongest flowering in sun and some afternoon shade helpful in hotter regions. Soil: Well-drained soil with moderate fertility, and avoid sites that stay wet, especially in winter. Water: Moderate water, keep evenly moist during active growth, then reduce slightly once established. USDA Zones: USDA Zones 5 to 9. Mature Size: About 9 inches tall and about 16 inches wide, with flower stems reaching about 15 inches. Ideal Uses Focal Point: Use as a focal point at the front of a bed where the warm orange blooms can pull attention in spring. Front Border: Plant along the front edge for a tidy mound and early color that bridges into early summer. Containers: Feature in pots and mixed planters for a compact, flower-forward plant that stays neat. Rock Garden: Place in well-drained pockets where the compact habit stays crisp and flowers read brightly. Pollinator Planting: Add to sunny beds to support bees and other beneficial insects during the bloom period. Low Maintenance Care Deadheading: Remove spent flower stems to encourage repeat bloom and keep the plant looking fresh. Watering: Water during dry spells, especially in the first season and for container plantings. Division: Divide every few years in spring to refresh vigor if the center becomes crowded. Cleanup: Trim back tired foliage after peak bloom and cut back old growth in late winter to early spring. Drainage: Improve heavy soil with grit or raised planting to reduce winter wetness around the crown. Why Choose Tempo Orange Avens? Early Color: Warm peach to orange blooms start early and help jump-start the season. Compact Habit: A tight, tidy mound fits small spaces and stays clean in mixed plantings. Repeat Bloom: Deadheading supports continued flowering in waves through the season. Border Friendly: Short stems hold up well and keep the plant from looking floppy. Easy Pairing: Warm tones blend well with blues, purples, and silvers for balanced combinations. If you want a compact perennial that delivers warm color without taking over, Tempo Orange Avens is a reliable choice. Give it sun to part shade, good drainage, and a little deadheading, and it will keep your front border looking active and polished. It is especially effective when planted in small groups so the color reads as a cohesive ribbon rather than scattered sparks.
