Butcher BBQ Open Pit Pork Injection Marinade

Butcher BBQ Open Pit Pork Injection Marinade for Juicy Pork Over Live Fire Open-fire pork cooks can be unforgiving. Direct heat, constant airflow, and lower humidity can pull moisture from pork shoulders, ribs, and loins faster than enclosed cooking environments, leaving less room for error during a long cook. Butcher BBQ Open Pit Pork Injection Marinade is formulated specifically for those demanding cooks. Its higher phosphate concentration is designed to help pork retain moisture, while molasses, garlic, onion, butter, and pepper create a savory flavor profile that complements smoke without covering up the natural taste of the meat. Built for open pits, offsets, barrels, and drum smokers, it can also be used when you simply want additional moisture retention in a closed smoker or pellet grill. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0} Why You'll Love It Made for demanding BBQ cooks: Developed for open pits, offset stick burners, barrel smokers, and drum cookers where heat and airflow can accelerate moisture loss. Higher phosphate concentration: Formulated with a heavier phosphate load than Butcher BBQ's standard Pork Injection to support moisture retention in tougher cooking environments. Helps keep pork juicy: A smart choice for long-cooked pork shoulder, loin, ribs, and other cuts where moisture matters. Savory pork-friendly flavor: Molasses, garlic, onion, butter, and pepper create depth without turning the injection into an overly sweet pork marinade. Works beyond open pits: The formula can also be used in pellet grills, cabinet smokers, ceramic cookers, and other closed cooking systems. Made for more than pork shoulder: Use it for pulled pork, pork loin, ribs, and even whole hog cooks. Works with your exterior rub: Choose a pepper-forward rub for savory bark or a sweeter BBQ rub for contrast. Easy to prepare: Mix with water or apple juice, inject throughout the meat, season, and cook. Competition roots: Developed from Butcher BBQ's championship pork injection foundation. Made in the USA: Produced in a peanut-free facility. Open Pit Pork Injection is made for pitmasters who cook in environments where managing the fire is part of the process. If you use an offset stick burner, barrel smoker, drum cooker, or true open pit and regularly deal with direct heat, airflow, temperature changes, and accelerated moisture loss, this formula was designed with that style of cooking in mind. It is not limited to open-fire cooking. Backyard cooks using pellet grills, ceramic cookers, or enclosed smokers can also use Open Pit when they want the higher phosphate concentration and savory flavor profile. The name describes where this injection was designed to excel, not the only place it can be used. How to Use Open Pit Pork Injection Mix the Open Pit Pork Injection with water or apple juice according to the package directions. Mix thoroughly before filling your meat injector. Inject the pork in a consistent grid pattern approximately every 1 to 1.5 inches. Focus on the thickest portions of pork shoulders and roasts for even distribution. Apply your preferred pork rub to the exterior. Cook using your preferred open pit, offset, barrel, drum, pellet grill, or other smoker. Open Pit vs. Standard Pork Injection Open Pit Pork Injection Higher phosphate concentration with a bolder savory and pepper-forward profile. Designed to excel in open pits, offsets, barrel smokers, drum cookers, and other demanding cooking environments. Standard Pork Injection Balanced all-purpose pork injection suited to a broad range of smoking and cooking methods. Which Should You Choose? Choose Open Pit when moisture loss is a bigger concern or you prefer its savory profile. Choose the standard Pork Injection when you want Butcher BBQ's more general-purpose pork formula. When cooking ribs, inject parallel to the bones through the thicker portions instead of using the same grid pattern you would use on a pork shoulder. Mix with apple juice when you want the injection liquid to contribute another layer of pork-friendly flavor. Pair with a pepper-forward seasoning when you want to reinforce the savory profile of the injection. Pair with a sweeter pork rub when you want contrast between the savory interior and sweeter exterior bark. For whole hog cooking, concentrate more injection in the shoulders and hams while using less in thinner sections. Use a dedicated marinade mixing bottle to thoroughly combine the injection before loading your injector. FAQ What makes Butcher BBQ Open Pit Pork Injection different from standard pork injection? Open Pit uses a higher phosphate concentration than Butcher BBQ's standard Pork Injection and has a more savory profile with a pepper backbone. It was developed specifically for demanding cooking environments such as open pits, offset stick burners, barrel smokers, and drum cookers where moving air and direct heat can increase moisture loss. Does Open Pit Pork Injection help keep pulled pork juicy? It is formulated specifically to support moisture retention during cooking. Sodium phosphate helps increase the water-holding capacity of the meat, making Open Pit particularly useful for pork shoulders exposed to long cooking times and demanding pit conditions. Can I use Open Pit Pork Injection in a pellet grill? Yes. Open Pit was designed to excel in open-fire and higher-moisture-loss environments, but it is not limited to those cookers. You can also use it in pellet grills, ceramic cookers, cabinet smokers, and other enclosed cooking systems. Can I use Open Pit Pork Injection in an offset smoker? Yes. Offset stick burners are one of the cooking environments this formula was developed for. Its higher phosphate concentration is intended to provide additional moisture-retention support during long wood-fired cooks. What does Open Pit Pork Injection taste like? The flavor profile leans savory with a gentle pepper backbone. Ingredients including molasses, garlic, onion, butter, and pepper add depth while allowing the natural pork flavor and smoke to remain noticeable. Why are molasses and butter included in Open Pit Pork Injection? According to Butcher BBQ's product information, molasses contributes subtle depth and mild sweetness, while butter adds richness to the savory profile. The formula is designed to complement pork and stronger open-fire smoke without making the finished meat taste overly sweet. Can I mix Open Pit Pork Injection with apple juice? Yes. Butcher BBQ recommends mixing Open Pit Pork Injection with water or apple juice before injecting the meat. Can I use Open Pit Pork Injection on ribs? Yes. For ribs, inject parallel to the bone through the thicker portions of the meat rather than using a tight grid pattern. This helps distribute the injection without unnecessarily damaging the meat between the bones. Can Open Pit Pork Injection be used for whole hog BBQ? Yes. For whole hog, the supplied guidance recommends concentrating injection in thicker areas such as the shoulders and hams while using less solution in thinner areas such as the loin and ribs. What rub should I use with Open Pit Pork Injection? A pepper-forward BBQ rub can complement the savory character of the injection, while a sweeter pork rub can create contrast between the savory injected meat and the exterior bark. Choose based on the finished flavor profile you want. Is Butcher BBQ Open Pit Pork Injection made in the USA? Yes. Butcher BBQ Open Pit Pork Injection is made in the USA and produced in a peanut-free facility.
