On Cloudstratus 'White Black'The On Cloudstratus in White Black is the shoe built on the premise that one layer of CloudTec® is not always enough. The Cloudstratus is On's dual-layer running platform — the shoe that answers the question of what happens when the CloudTec® pod system is doubled, when the cushioning architecture is built in two stacked layers rather than one, when the depth of protection available to the foot is increased beyond what any single-layer configuration can provide. Stratus is the meteorological term for the lowest cloud formation — the layer of cloud that covers the sky completely, that is not a single cloud but a continuous sheet of cloud, that provides not a point of softness but an unbroken surface of it. The Cloudstratus takes that name seriously: not a cloud underfoot but a stratum of cloud, a layer of cushioning that is as consistent and as complete as the sky on a stratus day. White Black is the colorway that presents this architecture without distraction — the white that makes the shoe's construction visible and the black that defines its edges. White Black ColorwayWhite is the color of the cloud that the Cloudstratus is named for — the color of the stratus layer when it is lit from above, the color of the cushioning system when it is expressed in the palette that most directly communicates what it does. Black is the color that gives the white its definition — the outline that makes the form legible, the contrast that makes the white more white by being present alongside it. On the Cloudstratus, White Black distributes these two colors across the shoe's architecture with the precision that the dual-layer system deserves: white for the upper and the primary midsole surfaces, black for the structural elements and the outsole, the two colors in a relationship that is as resolved as the shoe's cushioning architecture. White Black is the colorway that does not ask the wearer to look at the shoe — it asks them to look at what the shoe does, and uses the clarity of its palette to make that easier. Cloudstratus — Dual-Layer CloudTec®The Cloudstratus is built on On's dual-layer CloudTec® platform, which differs from the single-layer configurations used in the Cloud 6, Cloudmonster, and Cloudsurfer in a fundamental way: where those shoes use a single row of pods to provide cushioning, the Cloudstratus uses two rows, stacked vertically, so that the foot's impact is absorbed first by the upper layer and then by the lower layer before it reaches the ground. The result is a cushioning depth that is not simply double the single-layer depth — the two layers interact, with the upper layer's compression triggering the lower layer's response in a sequence that provides more consistent cushioning across the full range of impact forces than either layer could provide alone. The Helion™ midsole compound fills the space between and around the pods, providing the energy return that makes the dual-layer system feel responsive rather than simply soft. The outsole is On's road rubber compound, formulated for the daily training runs that the Cloudstratus's cushioning depth is designed to support. The upper is On's training mesh construction, structured for the security that high-mileage running requires. White Black presents this architecture in the colorway that is most honest about what it is: a running shoe, built for running, in the colors that running shoes have always used when they want to be understood rather than admired.
