Old Town

Old Town by Zivile Rudzikaite-Matuzoniene is a vibrant celebration of urban rhythm and human memory. The composition rises like a patchwork of stories - textured walls of crimson, turquoise, mustard, and ivory stacked in a joyful geometry of time. Each house, window, and shadow hums with the quiet persistence of life, forming a symphony of color that feels both ancient and immediate. Rudzikaite-Matuzoniene builds her city not through perspective but through feeling. Thick layers of paint and expressive marks breathe warmth into the architecture, suggesting laughter behind shutters, footsteps echoing through alleys, and conversations fading into dusk. The artist transforms the cityscape into a living organism, one where imperfection becomes the essence of beauty. In conversation with Old Town II, this earlier work radiates density and pulse, while its counterpart opens toward stillness and reflection. Together, the two paintings form a dialogue on time - how places evolve, how memories overlap, and how the same horizon can hold both chaos and calm. Through Old Town, Rudzikaite-Matuzoniene captures not just a place, but the heartbeat of belonging.
