Old Master Heydenryk Frame

Carved painting frame by Heydenryk (label verso) - with an American modernist twist. A beautiful frame. Measures: 23 1/4" x 19" Rabbet: 17 5/8" x 13 5/8" A finely executed Old Master–style painting frame by the esteemed House of Heydenryk, one of the most respected and historically significant framing firms in the world. Founded in Amsterdam in 1845 and later established in New York, Heydenryk has supplied museum-quality frames to leading institutions, collectors, and galleries internationally.  This example reflects the firm’s mastery of traditional European framing aesthetics, drawing inspiration from the Italian and French Old Master traditions. Hand-carved in wood and finished in rich gilt, the frame exhibits a sculptural profile designed to enhance both light and depth—qualities essential to the presentation of classical paintings. Heydenryk frames are distinguished by their ability to balance historical accuracy with refined craftsmanship, often produced using time-honored techniques revived in the 20th century by skilled artisans. The present frame exemplifies this approach, offering both visual gravitas and subtle elegance. Frames of this caliber were conceived as an extension of the artwork itself—capable of elevating even the most important paintings. As such, this example is not only a functional object, but a work of craftsmanship in its own right, suitable for significant works on panel or canvas, or as a collectible piece of framing history.
