Old Forester Birthday Bourbon 2008

Experience a piece of bourbon history with the Old Forester Birthday Bourbon 2008. Distilled in 1995 and bottled at its peak, this 94-proof expression offers a captivating journey through rich caramel, dark fruit, and perfectly integrated oak, culminating in an unforgettable finish. Tasting Notes Nose: A sophisticated and inviting bouquet, opening with classic Old Forester notes of rich brown sugar, vanilla bean, and toasted oak. Subtlety of dried dark fruits like cherry and fig emerges, intertwined with a gentle baking spice medley – think cinnamon, nutmeg, and a whisper of clove. A slight leathery earthiness and a floral hint of sweet pipe tobacco add further complexity, suggesting a beautifully aged spirit. Palate: The palate arrives with a luxurious, medium-full body. Initial sweetness of caramel and crème brûlée gives way to a vibrant burst of cherry and plum, characteristic of well-aged bourbon. The oak influence is gracefully integrated, presenting as warm and peppery rather than overtly tannic, complementing the fruit and spice. Notes of dark chocolate, roasted nuts, and a touch of rye spice – perhaps black pepper or a hint of mint – provide a delightful counterpoint, creating a harmonious and evolving flavor experience. Finish: Long, warm, and exceptionally satisfying. The sweet and savory interplay lingers, with persistent notes of caramelized sugar and dried fruit. A gradual fade into warm oak, soft leather, and a delicate spice (cinnamon and a touch of allspice) leaves a pleasant, slightly dry impression on the tongue. There's a subtle, almost ethereal hint of dark tobacco and lingering cherry cordial that invites another sip.
