Old Forester 1979

Experience a pour of history with this exceptional Old Forester 1979, a testament to Brown-Forman's enduring commitment to quality and craftsmanship. This sophisticated, low-proof bourbon offers a complex tapestry of dried fruit, caramel, and antique oak, delivering an unparalleled drinking experience from a bygone era. A true collector's gem, embodying the 'fineness developed with care' that the label proudly proclaims. Tasting Notes Nose: A sophisticated and complex aroma of dried dark fruits like fig and prune, intertwined with aged leather and polished antique wood. Subtler notes of candied orange peel, toasted nuts, and a whisper of almond and chocolate emerge, suggesting a mature, well-integrated spirit. A delicate floral sweetness, perhaps violet or rosehip, adds an unexpected layer. Palate: The entry is remarkably smooth and velvety, immediately showcasing a harmonious balance of sweet and savory. Rich caramel and butterscotch notes are prominent, quickly evolving into a medley of baking spices – cinnamon, nutmeg, and a hint of allspice. Dark cherry and plum provide a fruity counterpoint, while a gentle oak presence, not overpowering but clearly defined, offers hints of vanilla, tobacco, and a subtle earthiness. Despite the 86 proof, there's a surprising depth of flavor that belies its age-stated brethren of later years. The tannins are soft and integrated, providing structure without bitterness. Finish: The finish is long, elegant, and exceptionally clean, slowly fading into lingering notes of dark chocolate, roasted coffee bean, and a sweet, spicy warmth. A faint impression of dried fruit and a touch of menthol provide a refreshing lift at the very end. The moderate proof ensures a gentle lingering heat, inviting another sip.
