Old Debts

After ten long years as a private detective, Stockton native Jake Carter is finally closing his LA agency. In just a few days he'll put the missing teens and cheating spouses behind him and join the city's corporate world full of cushy jobs and hefty paychecks. But when his former partner is found dead in a Stockton homeless camp, murdered by a ruthless serial killer who's targeting the city's most vulnerable population, Carter will put his dreams on hold and return to his hometown to find the madman responsible before he strikes again. But solving this case won't be so easy. Standing in Carter's way is the police force he once betrayed, a vicious gang out for revenge, and a local government official with an insatiable hunger for expansion. It's a dangerous task indeed, and his only help will come from a brilliant professor at Delta College whose mysterious past shrouds her true motivations. Will Carter be able to navigate the lethal streets of his once beloved home? Can he outsmart the West Coast's most cunning killer? Or will he end up like his old friend, just another corpse tossed out like so much trash? Either way, Jake Carter's about to discover that old debts never die, someone always comes to collect.
