Oenothera fruticosa 'Fireworks' has bright, red stems of deep bronze foliage that contrasts with its red buds, which open to canary yellow blooms in June. Sometimes called Evening Primrose, it is also known as Sundrops. This perennial spreads by rhizomes to form attractive stands of day-blooming sunshine yellow. Plants may be cut back to base after first bloom to encourage re-bloom. Oenothera 'Fireworks' is a cultivar of Oenothera fruticosa, which is native to eastern Canada and to the United States from Oklahoma and Michigan eastward. Oenothera 'Fireworks' prefers full sun and average to dry, well-drained soil. It is tolerant of some shade but will not bloom as well. This Sundrops is tolerant of hot sites and infertile, dry soils.
