Ocean Blue 9" x 24" Splitface Quartzite Ledger Panel by MSI

Rockmount XL-Series: Ocean Blue 9" x 24" Splitface Quartzite Ledger Panel by MSI XL Ocean Blue Quartzite Ledger Profile. Source: MSI Surfaces The "Coastal Tectonic" Architectural Monolith While standard 6" x 24" stacked stone panels can sometimes create a highly fragmented, busy texture across wide vertical surfaces, the MSI Rockmount XL-Series scales up the individual stone blocks to establish a massive architectural presence. It represents the absolute pinnacle of modern "Coastal Contemporary," "Nordic Minimalist," and "Suave Industrial" design. Utilizing an expansive 9" x 24" format, it increases the total surface footprint by 50% per panel. This minimizes repetitive horizontal joint lines, allowing large, block-cut strips of authentic quartzite stone to form a continuous masonry canvas across majestic fireplaces, structural outdoor columns, and grand exterior facades. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Infuse your home's vertical planes with the moody, light-catching elegance of the XL Rockmount Ocean Blue Ledger Panel. Masterfully sourced and arranged by M S International (MSI) from premium runs of high-density natural quartzite, this heavy-duty cladding veneer completely redefines the expectations of stacked stone. The color profile showcases an incredibly refined, atmospheric canvas: a dominant background of soft blue-grays, slate tones, and cool graphite fields, beautifully warmed by layers of soft cream, sandy beige, and delicate ivory quartz veining. The XL Series is purposefully engineered to project visual weight and deep architectural character. Rather than utilizing standard thin strips, the Ocean Blue profile uses larger, more blocky fragments with an authentic Splitface finish—meaning the quartzite is fractured mechanically along its natural crystalline fault lines to expose a rugged, unpolished cleft. These blocks are hand-sorted and stepped into staggered interlocking panels with variable depths averaging 0.75 inches. This dimensional topography creates a layered relief play that catches moving ambient light or targeted spotlights, texturing the stone with deep, dramatic shadows at night. KEY FEATURES Expanded XL 9" x 24" Geometry: Oversized modular panels significantly lower the number of horizontal joint seams, ensuring a cleaner, more fluid "quarried slab" look on large scales. Moody Ocean Blue Palette: A highly curated, complex colorway of slate blues, grays, and warm cream veining that coordinates beautifully with neutral timbers and modern monochromatic paint schemes. Chunky Splitface Clefts: Real fractured quartzite surfaces deliver bold 3D depth and high-relief physical texture that cement-based faux-stone veneers cannot replicate. Grout-Free Interlocking System: Stepped, puzzle-like interlocking boundaries allow adjacent panels to nest tightly against one another, completely hiding raw grid lines. Premium All-Weather Quartzite Core: Naturally frost-proof with exceptional density and low water absorption, making it entirely capable of weathering intense winter freeze-thaw cycles and hot exterior exposures. Standard gray thin-set or low-grade adhesive will seep dark moisture shadows through the backside of the porous stone while curing, permanently dulling your silver-gray and cream panel faces into a muddy, washed-out tone. Professional Recommendations: Substrate Structural Dead-Load: Due to the extreme weight of these oversized quartzite panels (~12 lbs per square foot), they cannot be installed directly over standard interior drywall or wallpaper. They must be anchored over a rigid cement backer board (firmly screwed to framing studs at 12-inch intervals) or applied directly over clean, structurally sound masonry or concrete block foundations. The Multi-Box Grid Shuffle: Natural stone inherently carries lot-to-lot and block variation. Before applying any adhesive, unpack at least 3 to 4 boxes and lay the panels out on the floor. Mix panels with heavier cream accents evenly with the darker slate-blue pieces to ensure a completely balanced visual distribution across your wall surface. Wet Saw Cutting Mandate: Natural quartzite is incredibly dense and contains natural crystalline silica. Installers must utilize a professional wet tile saw fitted with a continuous-rim diamond blade for all alterations. Never dry-cut these panels, as inhaling airborne silica dust causes severe, permanent respiratory damage. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Do these natural quartzite panels require a sealer? For interior dry feature walls (like a living room fireplace), sealing is optional but recommended to keep airborne dust from clinging to the rough clefts. For outdoor facades, patio columns, or surrounding an open fireplace hearth, applying a premium, non-yellowing penetrating/impregnating sealer is highly mandatory. This invisible layer blocks rainwater absorption and shields the stone from water tracking, soot discoloration, or efflorescence (white mineral salts bleeding out of the mortar). Can this splitface stone look be installed inside a wet shower enclosure? No, this is highly discouraged. While it handles exterior storm rain perfectly due to open-air evaporation, the dense, un-grouted crevices of a dry-stack ledger panel will trap falling body oils, soap scum, and hard water minerals in an indoor enclosed shower. Over time, this leads to mold growth that is nearly impossible to scrub out. Keep this tile limited to dry accent walls, fireplaces, and outdoor facades. PRO DESIGN TIPS The Pre-Formed Corner Solution: If wrapping an outward 90-degree corner (such as an exterior support pillar or a three-sided fireplace), pair these flat panels with matching XL Ocean Blue Corner L-Pieces (9" x 12" x 6"). Flip-flop the corner blocks 180 degrees on alternating rows (alternating the long and short legs) to completely hide the vertical corner miter seam and preserve a solid-masonry look. Grazing LED Lighting Schemes: Position neutral-to-cool spectrum (4000K) overhead LED spotlights or a hidden valance strip directly above the stone feature wall. Setting the lights to graze down the wall catches the rugged top edges of the splitface clefts, projecting intense, sharp shadows that maximize the 3D depth of the slate-blue stone at night. Warm Organic Harmonies: Lean into a high-end "Coastal Transitional" aesthetic by pairing this cool blue-gray stone texture with a floating mantle made of natural white oak or warm cedar, and surround the area with soft sand or cream textiles. The addition of warm natural wood tones beautifully counterbalances the cool gray tones of the quartzite.
