Handprinted mansouri cotton tote bag created by artist Shatha Safi from Dheisheh Refugee Camp/Jerash Village. This design is of a traditional Palestinian woman weaving a basket by hand, a skill passed down through generations of farming communities. Approximate dimensions: 14.5" x 15.5” Occupied Shatha Artist Shatha Safi believes art is a way to preserve Palestinian history and connect the different generations of Palestine together. A self-taught visual artist whose work is deeply inspired by Palestinian history, heritage, and resistance, Safi explores various mediums, including ink sketches, clay sculptures, acrylic paintings and type design to reinterpret Palestinian cultural symbols in innovative ways. Living under apartheid, Safi describes her art as "an ink and clay Molotov cocktail" of resistance, using imagination and creativity to challenge oppression and celebrate Palestinian identity.
