Obon Table

The Moooi Obon Table brings this amazing mix of ancient inspiration and modern craftsmanship that somehow feels both timeless and completely contemporary. Simone Bonanni designed these tables after getting obsessed with archaeological terracotta finds - you know, those pottery fragments that survive thousands of years and still look beautiful. Each piece is handcrafted from actual terracotta, so no two are exactly alike, which gives them this authentic, slightly imperfect quality that feels refreshingly honest in a world of mass-produced furniture. The glazed top creates this gorgeous, glossy contrast against the raw terracotta base, and the soft, rounded edges make them feel approachable rather than precious. The proportions are really well thought out too - the square high version works perfectly as a side table, while the lower options function beautifully as coffee tables. What's brilliant about the Obon collection is how these tables work in spaces where you want something substantial but not overwhelming. The slightly bowl-shaped surface is actually practical - perfect for holding your coffee cup or corralling small items without them rolling off. The terracotta material has this warmth that synthetic materials just can't match, and it ages really well instead of looking dated after a few years. You can mix different sizes together to create interesting arrangements, or use just one as a statement piece. The weight gives them a solid, quality feel, but they're not so heavy that moving them becomes a production. Each table comes with those natural variations and subtle imperfections that make handcrafted pieces so appealing - it's like having a piece of functional art that gets better with age. Moooi continues to work with designers who understand that great furniture should tell a story while serving a purpose. Founded by Marcel Wanders and Casper Vissers, the Dutch company has built its reputation on pieces that blur the line between art and everyday objects. Simone Bonanni's collaboration with Moooi on the Obon collection reflects this philosophy perfectly - taking inspiration from ancient craftsmanship and translating it into something that works in contemporary homes. Along with their innovative lighting, seating, and accessories, Moooi creates pieces that enhance spaces through genuine character rather than just following trends, helping you build environments that feel both sophisticated and completely livable.
