Oak Round Side Table Papyrus

The Met x Eichholtz introduces the Side Table Papyrus, compact in form yet rich in detail, bringing sculptural elegance to even the most intimate spaces. Made from refined brown oak veneer with an expressive open grain, this side table mirrors the striking base design seen in the coffee and dining tables from the same collection. Its compact silhouette makes it ideal beside a lounge chair, sofa, or bed offering both functionality and timeless style. HISTORIC PROVENANCE The Side Table Papyrus takes its name and design inspiration from a capital bearing a papyrus motif that once crowned the column of a kiosk built in front of the temple of Amun at Hibis in Egypts Kharga Oasis. Dating to 380343 BCE, the original column at The Metropolitan Museum of Art combines stylized representations of the common papyrus with foxtail flatsedge plantsan early example of the so-called composite capitals that unite decorative botanical forms into one cohesive design. Eichholtz honors this legacy by translating the Egyptian capitals rhythm and symmetry into the sculptural base of this modern table.
