Nut Dining Chair

The Moooi Nut Dining Chair is Marcel Wanders' approach to making dining seating that actually wants to hug you instead of just propping you upright for meals. Part of the larger Nut collection designed back in 2013, it uses that same bent plywood construction with solid oak legs that gives the whole series its distinctive wrapped, organic shape. The curved shell cradles your back in a way that feels protective without being confining, and the cushioned seat and backrest add enough padding that you're comfortable through long dinners or working sessions at the table. Available in multiple wood stains and a wide range of upholstery fabrics, so you can match it to existing furniture or go bold with contrasting colors and textures. The solid oak legs taper nicely and keep the visual weight from getting too heavy despite the enveloping form. What makes these work better than a lot of sculptural dining chairs is how Wanders balanced the aesthetic with actual ergonomics. The seat height and depth hit that sweet spot where most people can sit comfortably with feet flat on the floor and back properly supported. The curved backrest provides lumbar support in the right places without forcing you into one rigid position, which matters when you're sitting through extended meals or using them as desk chairs. The bent plywood construction keeps them lighter than solid wood chairs, so pulling them in and out from the table isn't a struggle. The upholstery integration feels intentional rather than just cushions plopped onto a wooden frame - everything curves together as one cohesive piece. Works well around dining tables in homes or restaurants where you need seating that looks distinctive but still functions properly for everyday use. Moooi operates out of the Netherlands with Marcel Wanders as co-founder and artistic director, bringing that Dutch design sensibility where furniture should have character without being impractical. Wanders designed the Nut collection to be part of this larger family that includes lounge chairs and footstools, all sharing the same bent plywood aesthetic and enveloping proportions. The brand's known for working with quality materials and construction methods that justify the investment - proper joinery, solid wood components, and upholstery that holds up over years of use. They collaborate with designers who understand that dining chairs get used hard - pulled around constantly, sat in for hours, occasionally leaned back on two legs despite knowing better - so they engineer accordingly rather than just making things that photograph well.
