N.U.K.E.S.

by Lavern Holdeman Can a group of kids save the world? The Cold War was a scary time. Nuclear war seemed imminent; school children practiced ‘duck and cover’, families built bomb shelters. And on the eve of the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962, as U.S. and Russian ships face off near Cuba and the world teeters on the edge of war, Shawn Stuckey and his friends form a secret club, the Nuclear Undercover Kids Espionage Service, or N.U.K.E.S., so they can do their own bit to save the world. First up: exposing their science teacher as a Russian spy! This humorous book with serious undertones will encourage young readers to learn more about an important time in history.
