Ancient Egyptians treasured amazonite, creating jewelry and ornamental pieces from it as well as carving important texts into this stone. Prized for its beauty and healing power, this pale green mineral rock has been around since the 10th century BC and is also known as the "Amazon stone," believed to be found at the Amazon River Basin in Brazil. In reality, amazonite is found in other parts of Brazil, as well as Colorado, Virginia, Australia and Madagascar. Aquamarine is a beautiful blue gem and its name comes from the Italian word for seawater. As a member of the beryl family, aquamarine is a cousin to the emerald. It can be found in various shades of pale blue and aqua green. According to legend, it was the treasure of Atlantis. Romans believed carving a frog into an aquamarine would bring enemies together. Greeks and Romans both regarded it as a sailor's stone of protection. Sumerians, Egyptians, and Hebrews all treasured aquamarine.
