Notice Window Guards Sign

Ensure your property complies with New York City window guard notification requirements with this durable Notice Window Guards Sign. Designed for residential buildings where children may reside, this sign clearly informs tenants of their rights and responsibilities regarding legally required window guard installations. What This Sign is For: The Notice Window Guards Sign informs tenants about the availability and legal requirements of window guards in residential buildings. Window guards are an important child safety measure designed to prevent falls from open windows. This sign helps property owners communicate tenant rights and reminds occupants to request window guards when children under a certain age live in or regularly visit the apartment.  Legal Requirement Explained: New York City requires owners of certain residential buildings to provide annual notice regarding window guards and to install approved window guards in apartments where children 10 years of age or younger live or regularly spend significant time, when required by law. These regulations are administered primarily by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) under the New York City Health Code. Posting a Notice Window Guards Sign helps reinforce tenant awareness of these requirements and supports a property's overall child safety program. While the annual notice requirement is generally fulfilled through written distribution to tenants, many building owners also post informational signage in common areas to increase awareness and encourage compliance. Who is Required to Post This Sign: - Owners and managers of multifamily residential buildings - Apartment buildings with three or more dwelling units - Residential property management companies - Housing cooperatives and condominium associations - Affordable housing developments - Public housing facilities Although the law specifically requires annual tenant notification and, when applicable, installation of window guards, many owners choose to post this sign as an additional safety and educational measure.
