Nitro Alternator FX Splitboard

Full-Camber All-Mountain Splitboard Nitro Alternator FX Splitboard The Nitro Alternator FX Splitboard is a stiff, full-camber splitboard for riders who want a solid-board feel on the descent rather than a surfy one. A directional shape running 288-244-288 mm at 148 cm carries no taper at all, and a dual degressive sidecut tightening from 9.3 m at the contacts to 6.2 m underfoot is what lets a stiff board still come around in tight terrain. Trüe Camber runs the full length with a flex Nitro rates 8 of 10 and carbon tape through a Powerlite poplar core, which points the Alternator FX at firm snow, spring lines and riders who ride their split the way they ride a solid. Expert Review Ratings and sizing guidance verified against manufacturer specifications. Is This the Right Splitboard for You? Best For Advanced to expert riders who want a stiff, cambered split that drives hard on firm snow and holds an edge, and who value edge authority over powder float. Consider Another Splitboard If You mostly ride deep snow or want a forgiving board. With no taper and full camber, float comes from width rather than shape, and a flex of 8 punishes a passive stance. Tip and tail widths are identical on every size, which is unusual on a directional shape and means the tail holds its edge through the finish of a turn instead of releasing early. Carbon tape over a Powerlite poplar core adds torsional stiffness without much weight, and torsional stiffness is what makes an edge hold on refrozen spring snow. Forged T7075 aluminum hooks with tip and tail locks and the Nitro x Kohla skin attachment keep the transition simple, which matters most on a cold, exposed changeover. Best Uses Firm snow, spring corn and refrozen surfaces Riders who want a solid-board feel on a split All-mountain touring across mixed conditions Higher-speed riding on open faces Advanced to expert riders driving the board actively Splitboard Selection Advice The Alternator FX size run widens steadily rather than stepping between narrow and wide options: 244 mm at 148 cm, 246 at 152, 252 at 154, 254 at 158 and 264 at 162, all classed Mid-Wide. Effective edge grows from 1,050 mm to 1,140 mm across the same run. Because there is no wide version of any length, boot overhang has to be solved by moving up the run, which also lengthens the board. Riders with larger feet should look hard at the 158 and 162 rather than sizing down for maneuverability. Setback is 15 mm on every size and sits in the shape, so there is no reason to shift the stance further back. Skins are sold separately and attach through the Nitro x Kohla system with tip and tail locks rather than a universal clip, so confirm skin compatibility with that attachment before buying a set from another brand. Both run full tip-to-tail camber at a stiff flex, and both are built to drive rather than surf. The Jones Howler Splitboard adds 8 mm of taper and three traction bumps per edge, which gives it more float and more bite on ice. The Alternator FX runs no taper and a tighter 6.2 m centre radius, so it finishes a turn harder and turns quicker for its length. Shop the Jones Howler Splitboard Alternator FX vs. Weston Backwoods Splitboard Opposite design philosophies at a similar price. The Weston Backwoods Splitboard carries 18 mm of taper and a rockered nose built to float and slash. The Alternator FX has no taper and full camber, built to hold an edge. A rider whose season is storm days wants the Backwoods; one whose season is spring and firm snow wants the Alternator FX. Shop the Weston Backwoods Splitboard Alternator FX vs. Jones Frontier 2.0 Splitboard Both sit near the same price, and they ask very different things of the rider. The Jones Frontier 2.0 Splitboard runs a mid-soft flex Jones rates 5 of 10 with nose and tail rocker, built to forgive. The Alternator FX runs an 8 with full camber and demands an active stance. Skill level and terrain decide, not value. Shop the Jones Frontier 2.0 Splitboard Common Questions Who should buy the Nitro Alternator FX Splitboard? The Nitro Alternator FX Splitboard suits advanced to expert riders who want a stiff, cambered split that feels like a solid board on the way down. A flex rated 8 of 10 over full tip-to-tail camber with carbon tape makes the Alternator FX strongest on firm snow, spring surfaces and higher-speed open terrain, and it asks the rider to drive it. What bindings and skins work with the Nitro Alternator FX Splitboard? The Nitro Alternator FX Splitboard uses a standard splitboard interface, so it takes splitboard-specific bindings that mount to a puck system and transition between tour and ride mode. Standard solid-board snowboard bindings are not compatible. The board is sold on its own, so the binding interface and skins are separate purchases. Skins attach through the Nitro x Kohla system with tip and tail locks rather than a universal clip, so confirm any third-brand skin against that attachment. Confirm the puck pattern of your binding system against the board before mounting. Does the Alternator FX really float as well as Nitro says? This is worth being straight about. Nitro's copy describes the Alternator FX as floating beautifully, and the shape does not support that the way a powder board would. Tip and tail widths are identical on every size, which means zero taper, and Trüe Camber runs the full length rather than lifting a rockered nose. What float there is comes from Mid-Wide surface area, not from shape. On deep days a tapered, rockered board will float noticeably better; on firm snow the Alternator FX will hold an edge better than either. What is a dual degressive sidecut? The Nitro Alternator FX Splitboard blends three radii along each edge rather than one. On the 148 the edge runs 9.3 m at each contact point and tightens to 6.2 m underfoot. The long radii at the ends keep the edge from grabbing as it engages and releases, and the tight middle is what starts the turn. That combination is why a board with a flex of 8 does not feel as demanding to turn as the number suggests. Which size should I choose? Waist width climbs steadily across the run, from 244 mm at 148 cm to 264 mm at 162 cm, and every size is classed Mid-Wide with no separate wide option at any length. That means boot overhang can only be solved by going longer. Riders with larger feet should size to the 158 or 162 and accept the extra length rather than sizing down for quickness, since heel and toe drag on a firm sidehill ends a descent faster than a long board does. How is the Alternator FX different from the Nitro Alternator Split? They are separate boards despite the shared name. Nitro builds the Alternator Split with a Progressive width and rates its flex 7 of 10, while the Alternator FX runs Mid-Wide widths and a flex of 8. If you are cross-shopping the two, check which one a listing actually refers to, because the names are easy to confuse and the boards ride differently. Our Verdict The Nitro Alternator FX Splitboard is the split for a rider who does not want the descent to feel like a compromise. A directional 288-244-288 mm shape with no taper and Trüe Camber running the full length puts the whole edge on the snow, and a dual degressive sidecut tightening from 9.3 m at the contacts to 6.2 m underfoot keeps a flex rated 8 of 10 from feeling like a plank. Carbon tape over a Powerlite poplar core holds the torsional stiffness that firm snow rewards. Read the float claims carefully though: with zero taper and full camber, this board earns its keep on spring corn and refrozen surfaces rather than on the deepest days.
