Nikita’s Gift is an Asian x American from Ukraine grafted persimmon cross that drops fruit late, keeping deer coming back for more throughout the season. The best of both worlds, the fruit has the fruit size of the Asian persimmon and the hardiness of the American persimmon. This is a grafted tree.  Deer will find these trees and bucks will guard them to protect this special food supply. They love the sweet nutty flavor when fully ripened. Nikita’s Gift Persimmon ripens late, and drops its fruit late in October through December, depending on the USDA zone and climate where planted. Mildly astringent.  Nikita’s Gift tastes more like Asian persimmon. These astringent fruits are typically dried or used in jams. You can eat persimmons fresh, dried, or cooked. They are also commonly used around the world in jellies, drinks, pies, curries, and puddings. Root-stock  is -Diospyros virginiana Nikita’s persimmons will bear fruit in 2-3 years depending on the care and climate they receive. Cold hardy to USDA plant Zones 5b-9. Note on Nikita’s Gift Persimmon: Delayed to break dormancy This variety leafs out late often weeks after other trees. That’s normal. It needs real warmth to wake up. Don’t overwater. Don’t fertilize until you see green. Be patient, it’s not dead. Give it time, and it’ll reward you with strong growth and sweet fruit. *Your trees might need to be gently pruned to fit in the appropriate sized box. This will not affect future health or hinder fruit production.
