Mathis Neighborhoodie

This one is for Mathis. The town that organizes itself around its schools and its smokehouse, and does not need anyone's approval for either. Smolik's is never far from the conversation. Mathis High School sets the rhythm of the year. The rest of it, the open ranch country, the neighbors who know each other, the quiet confidence that outsiders notice right away, comes with the territory. Wear it back home or wherever you landed. It says where you are from, and it means the whole town.
