Newport Plum Tree

Beautiful Foliage and Deep Hues of Purple The Newport Plum tree is a spectacular purple-leafed tree that's also reliable under tough conditions. It's a hardy and adaptable ornamental plum, even in extreme climates. This petite, blooming fruit tree adds beauty to any sized yard. This plum tree has richly hued leaves of deep purple. It's an interesting contrast to the emerald, lime and chartreuse shades of most landscaping trees. The foliage actually grows deeper in color as the summer progresses. The blooms of the Newport Plum arrive in the spring. They provide a thick cover of pink and white blossoms to grace your yard. The flowers are eager to appear; they flower earlier than most plum trees. They carry a delightful scent to charm the nose as well as the eye. As the flowers fade, the fruits that draw wildlife like songbirds will form. Birds like to live near a food source so a few will very likely take up residence in the tree's dense canopy. The Newport Plum tree is compact and grows in a dense, rounded form. The natural shape requires very little pruning to be attractive. The mature height is around 25 tall with a spread of similar size. This moderate size is perfect for small yards or planted in multiples on larger properties. This tough tree can take the cold without fading and tolerates many soil conditions. It's hardy in zones 4 through 10. The Newport Plum will make a lovely and resilient focal point in your yard.
