Offering a mix of auteur driven studio films produced during the New Hollywood era of the late 1960s and 70s all the way through the indie boom of the 1980s and 90s, Cinématographe will explore the wide breadth of American moviemaking, spanning numerous genres and scales of production. Curated and produced by Vinegar Syndrome's Justin LaLiberty, each limited edition release will be housed in a specially designed, cloth-bound, media book with embossed foil titles and custom molded disc trays accompanied by a slipcase featuring newly commissioned art and an individually numbered J-card. In the near future, Fox (Christopher Walken, King of New York) and X (Willem Dafoe, Light Sleeper) are industrial spies who are hired by corporations to bring sought after employees to the highest bidder, leaving their current employers in the dust. When they are hired to help move Hiroshi (played by anime artist Yoshitaka Amano), a brilliant scientist, from a German company back to Japan, they enlist the help of a call girl named Sandii (Asia Argento, Boarding Gate) to seduce him. The actions of Fox, X and Sandii result in a play of power, sex and violence that takes them around the globe, not knowing who either can trust.  Based on William Gibson’s short story of the same name and adapted for the screen by noted iconoclast Abel Ferrara (Bad Lieutenant, Dangerous Game), who co-wrote the script with regular collaborator Christ Zois, New Rose Hotel is an understated foray into cyberpunk aesthetics at the turn of the millennium that signals a turning point in the career of Ferrara. Cinématographe is proud to present Abel Ferrara’s often overlooked sci-fi thriller in a new 2K restoration from the best surviving film elements. directed by: Abel Ferrara starring: Christopher Walken, Willem Dafoe, Asia Argento 1998 / 93 min / 1.85:1 / English DTS-HD MA 5.1 Additional info: Region A Blu-ray New audio commentary by film critic Adrian Martin New video introduction to the film by writer/director Abel Ferrara Wild & Wooly - a new video interview with actor Willem Dafoe Doing Your Homework - a new video conference with actress Asia Argento I Had to Be Cool - a new video interview with composer Schooly D Checking Into the New Rose Hotel - a new video essay by film critic Alexandra Heller-Nicholas Booklet with new text essays by film critic Filipe Furtado, Cinématographe's Justin LaLiberty and film critic Nick Newman English SDH subtitles Scene: A Memoir - Hardcover Book By Abel Ferrara A kaleidoscopic memoir by acclaimed filmmaker Abel Ferrara, director of the cult classic films Bad Lieutenant, King of New York, and Dangerous Game, offering an unflinching look at his life, career, and the gritty world of independent cinema. Throughout his five-decade career, film director Abel Ferrara—now in his seventies—has been one of cinema’s most provocative and critically revered figures. Since beginning as an independent filmmaker in Manhattan in the early 1970s—before “indie films” were a genre—and refining his craft as a director for the TV show Miami Vice, he has directed more than thirty feature films, most notably the cult classics Bad Lieutenant, King of New York, and Dangerous Game. His work, often controversial for its depictions of sex, violence, and drugs, has been praised for its sincerity and depth, with critics noting that his films take spirituality and morality more seriously than most films do. In Scene, Ferrara opens up about the inspiration for his creativity detailing his dramatic life journey, from his rough upbringing in the 1950s Bronx to reaching the pinnacle of his career while struggling with addiction. This memoir is not just a recounting of his life but a manifesto on what it means to be a true artist—one who refuses to compromise and continues to create boundary-pushing work. Scene is a profound, beautiful, and inspiring account of an artist’s relentless pursuit of creativity, making it a must-read for film fans and anyone interested in the gritty realities of the entertainment industry. 9" x 6" 262 pages
