Tim Sparks is incredible, a complete original. Bill Frisell Traditional Jewish melodies from around the world, Yemen to the Caucasus, Krakow to Tin Pan Alley, artfully arranged for solo guitar and performed by the legendary Tim Sparks, a longtime veteran of Klezmer and Balkan bands. Nehsamah is a soulful and enjoyable CD that will appeal to music lovers of all ages. A Review: You'd never guess that in presenting a slice of "radical Jewish culture," John Zorn would produce an album as exquisitely beautiful as guitarist Tim Sparks's Neshamah. Collecting traditional Jewish melodies from throughout Eastern Europe and the Middle East, this collection mixes the architecture of the melodies with Sparks's fast fingerwork, corralling the latter into discreet enough bits to create a constant sense of movement and drama. Given the prevalence of full bands in much Balkan and Klezmer music, Sparks's solo renditions have an awe-inducing power. He cherishes not only each note, even when they're coming with flashing speed, but he equally indulges each bent-string twist and turn. --Andrew Bartlett Tracklist 1 The Baal Shem Tov's Melody 3:21 2 Hamisha Asar 4:54 3 Odessa Mama (Odesa Mame) 3:09 4 Skrip, Klezmerl Skripe 3:48 5 Los Caminos De Sirkeci 2:59 6 Kad Jawajuni 4:42 7 A Hora Mit Tzibeles 3:34 8 Viva Orduena 2:57 9 Quando El Rey Nimrod 3:49 10 A Leybedike Honga 2:13 11 The Shoemaker's Melody 2:30 12 Freylich 3:53 13 Sholem Aleichem 2:08 14 Naftule Spielt Far Dem Rebin 2:40 15 Addio Querida   Product details Audio CD (August 17, 1999) SPARS Code: DDD Number of Discs: 1 Label: Tzadik ASIN: B00000JWLT
