Neon Flash Spirea

Neon Flash Spirea (Spiraea japonica 'Neon Flash')Neon Flash Spirea is a compact, mounded shrub that brings intense flower color and tidy structure to sunny beds. Its dense habit makes borders look finished, even when it is not in bloom, and it fits easily into smaller spaces. Vivid red to reddish pink flower clusters light up the plant from late spring through summer, with repeat bloom often following a quick trim. It is a dependable, low-maintenance choice for adding long-season color and pollinator activity. Distinctive FeaturesThis Japanese spirea is known for its high-impact bloom color and clean, rounded form. New growth can emerge with a purple tinge, then matures to deep green foliage that sets off the bright flower clusters. In fall, foliage often shifts to burgundy to purplish tones, extending interest beyond the flowering season. With simple post-bloom pruning, the plant refreshes quickly and can continue flowering well into the warm season. Growing Conditions Sun: Full sun to part sun for best flowering and compact growth. Soil: Average, well-drained soil, adaptable to many garden soils when drainage is reasonable. Water: Medium moisture to establish, then moderate watering, with occasional deep watering during extended dry periods. USDA Zones: Hardy in USDA Zones 4 to 8. Mature Size: Typically 2 to 3 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide. Habit: Dense, rounded, and mounded. Bloom Season: Late spring through summer, with repeat bloom possible into early fall after trimming. Deer: Often shows good deer resistance in many landscapes. Ideal Uses Focal Point: Use as a low focal point where the vivid bloom color can anchor the front of a sunny bed. Edging: Line walks and bed fronts for a tidy border that stays compact and defined. Mass Planting: Plant in drifts to create a bold sweep of flower color and clean structure. Low Hedge: Use in a row to form a colorful, compact hedge with a consistent outline. Foundation Planting: Place along foundations where a dense mound adds definition without blocking windows. Low Maintenance Care Pruning: Shear lightly after the first bloom flush to encourage repeat flowering and keep the mound tight. Renewal: In late winter to early spring, remove a few older stems at the base to maintain vigor and density. Watering: Water consistently during the first growing season, then water during prolonged drought to reduce stress. Fertilizing: Feed lightly in spring only if needed, because excess fertility can reduce flowering and loosen habit. Mulching: Mulch to conserve moisture and reduce weeds, keeping mulch pulled back from the stems. Why Choose Neon Flash Spirea? Intense Bloom Color: Vivid red to reddish pink flower clusters deliver standout color when the garden needs it most. Compact Structure: Dense, mounded habit fits borders, foundations, and smaller landscapes. Repeat Bloom Potential: A quick trim after flowering often encourages additional blooms.
