NATIVE HAWAIIAN DESIGN The Ndigenous design plays on the phonetics in pronouncing the word, “indigenous”. The design forgoes the letter “i” and instead uses the text, “ndigenous”. However, after panning back from the design, the entire design itself is actually the missing letter “i”. The kaona (hidden meaning) is meant to be very playful: sometimes one need only back away from the details, and one’s own individual perspective, to see the bigger picture. In many indigenous communities the identity of the community is placed in the “we” and not the “i”. The full design also features our logo, which include the three mauna (mountain) pattern triangles representing the three hanauna (generations) guiding native peoples of today – past, present and future. Showcase this design to show your support for all the poʻe maoli (indigenous peoples) around the world.
