Natural Operculum Seashell Pendant Necklace

A vintage operculum cat's eye seashell set inside a silver plated coin edge bezel setting with a 24 inch silver chain. Operculum means "little lid". It is a structure that appears on different types of gastropods, and opens and closes like a tiny trapdoor. The reverse side of the shell has a spiral pattern. I keep seeing a black cat face in this. Seashells have been used metaphysically for thousands of years. Ancient cultures believed natural objects such as shells held spiritual energy and magical powers. They were used as charms and for rituals and divination. Because they come from the sea, shells are associated with the element of water. They can be used to draw desired things into your life. The Victorians believed these shells looked like eyes and used them frequently in jewelry to symbolize the evil eye and to ward off danger and misfortune. Jewelry incorporating the evil eye symbol has been worn for thousands of years to keep the wearer safe from harm. The evil eye symbol is one of the most prevalent images seen worldwide. It is used for basically the same purpose in almost every culture. Seashells have been used metaphysically for thousands of years.
