Yaffa's Oranges Tee

The Yaffa orange became one of Palestine’s most famous symbols, rooted in the fertile groves of the coastal city of Yaffa. It gained popularity in the 1800's and was cultivated especially in the 19th century with the development of the Shamouti variety, it was prized for its sweetness, seedlessness, and thick skin that made it ideal for export, turning it into a cornerstone of the Palestinian economy and a beloved fruit across Europe. Beyond its commercial success, the Yaffa orange came to embody Palestinian identity, pride, and connection to the land, celebrated in poetry, art, and memory. After 1948, when much of Yaffa’s population was displaced and its groves seized, the orange transformed into a powerful symbol of both loss and resilience, representing the beauty of a homeland that Palestinians continue to cherish and defend.
