Nalini Throw Pillow

Inspired by the intricate bhandani tie dye motifs on a Rajasthani lehenga, the Nalini throw pillow is printed in a lovely combination of sea foam green, navy, mustard, and white, with the navy floral motifs enhanced with hand embroidered French knots to add a textural finish. This pillow is finished with dainty tassels along the edges, appealing to both Bohemian and transitional design styles alike. Hand printed and embroidered by artisans across Bangalore, New Delhi, and Kolkata, every pillow features subtle variations in the placement of the pattern that make it truly one-of-a-kind. This pillow is inspired by bandhani (derived from the Sanskrit root, bandh, which means “to bind” or “to tie”), a tie dye technique dating back to the Indus Valley civilization in 4000 B.C. which involves plucking cloth with the fingernails into many tiny bindings that form a figurative design. The most prolific bandhani design is an arrangement of polka-dot style dots into mini clusters, first seen in a 6th century wall painting depicting the life of the Buddha at the Ajanta Ellora caves in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. We have reimagined this tie dye motif into a print and have elevated the design with hand embroidered French knots to provide a textural element.
