Naim 555 PS DR

555 PS DR The ultimate upgrade.   OVERVIEW Not everyone sees hi-fi as we do. For us, a smooth, stable, low-noise power supply isn’t just desirable: it’s fundamental to proper hi-fi performance. Nowhere is that belief more clearly exemplified than in our reference 555 PS DR, the best power supply in our portfolio. Originally designed to partner our world-class CD555 CD player, the 555 PS can also be used with our ND 555, NDS, NDX and NDX 2 network players, our HDX hard disk player/ server and our DAC digital to analogue converter as well as the CDX2 CD player. Whatever Naim Audio product it partners, the 555 PS DR will improve every aspect of your favourite music. Voices and instruments become clearer and more natural. Perceived dynamic range increases too, while timing – music’s fundamental sense of rhythm and accuracy – snaps into even greater focus.    FEATURES Seven regulated supply voltages, including a separate supply for the CD555 clock circuit Low-resonance case with isolating feet Massive transformer, 40 percent larger than that fitted to the XPS Supplied with Power-Line mains cable as standard All-new Discrete Regulator (DR) configuration, delivering Naim Audio’s best-ever standards of stable, low-noise power      TECHONOLOGY & CRAFT   The 555 PS benefits from both our decades of experience and our relentless pursuit of superior sound quality. Its massive transformer, some 40 percent larger than that fitted to our XPS power supply, features five separate windings outputting to seven regulated supply voltages, including an output specifically intended for use with the clock circuitry of our CD555. The 555 PS was updated in 2012 as a result of a two year project to develop a new discrete regulator (DR) for Naim Audio power supplies. The new Naim Audio DR now features, alongside improvements to the wire routing, mechanical decoupling and internal layout. These enhancements, developed through intensive listening tests, significantly raise performance and make music even more communicative and enjoyable. A technical white paper on the Naim Audio Discrete Regulator technology is available here.    REVIEW & AWARDS Naim ND 555/555 PS DR review - Read More  "Naim’s range-topping streamer was never going to be cheap, but it is difficult to escape the fact that the ND555/ 555 PS DR comes with a £20k price tag. Yet, having used it for a number of months, we can honestly say we haven’t come across a better digital streaming source. We rate the ND555/555PS combination so highly it’s become a vital part of our reference set-up – and we can’t give it a better recommendation than that." - What Hi-Fi?    Naim ND 555/555 PS DR review - Read More  "We rate the ND555/555PS combination so highly it’s become a vital part of our reference set-up – and we can’t give it a better recommendation than that." - What Hi-Fi?  NDS plus 2x 555PS - Read More "It would be pointless to measure the double supply arrangement, as the audible sound quality changes will never show up on conventional distortion meters. A forensic examination with an analyzer under the NDS cover, probing particular junctions of signal and power supply, might show small differences, but reliably associating any specific differences with sound quality improvements would still be nearly impossible " - HiFi Critic    Naim NDS/555 PS review - Read More "It’s a massive, majestic, delicate, dynamic, emotive, immense and totally addictive sound, and the best of it is all this ability can even make a radio drama on BBC Radio 4’s 128kbps AAC streaming service highly enjoyable as readily as it can make you gasp with the sheer quality of a 24-bit/192kHz orchestral recording. Yes, as statements of the obvious go, “£12,620 is a lot for a network streamer” is up there with the best. But it’s worth considering before you audition the Naim NDS: once you’ve heard what it can do, there’s likely to be no going back." - What Hi-Fi?    Naim ND 555 and PS 555 DR - Read More " Given the advance the ND 555 represented over the NDS, I wasn’t expecting too much of the ‘twin power’ strategy on the newer player, but Naim has done it again. Just when I thought I was enjoying things as much as I could, it’s sidled up, branded hoodie tightly in place against the Autumnal chill, and hissed ‘Now, do you want to try the really good stuff…?’ " - Stephen Priest    Naim Audio ND 555/555PS DR Network-Attached DAC - Read More  "The principles of the ND 555 are much the same as those of the NDS, in that the main circuitry is 'floated' on leaf springs, thus requiring four transit screws to be removed from below before the player is used, which is only a slightly tricky exercise. However, in the new machine this isolation is ramped up with the use of two hefty brass plates carrying the main circuitboards, the 'SpringBoard' construction said to isolate them from all vibration above 10Hz. In addition, the streaming section is mounted in an improved version of the Faraday Cage that was first seen in the NDS. This is not only physically isolated from the rest of the player but is claimed to be 'radio opaque' up to a considerably higher frequency." - Andrew Everard    SPECIFICATIONS   Finish Case Brushed and black anodised Front Brushed and black anodised Outputs Power Outputs ± 22V, ± 10V, 12V, 2 x 15V Physical Shipping Dimensions 240 x 590 x 500 mm Weight 15.7 kg Dimensions (HxWxD) 87 x 432 x 314 mm Power Mains Supply 100V, 115V, 230V; 50 or 60Hz Supplied with Supplied with Power-Line
