Murumuru butter has recently become a very popular ingredient in the natural product world. It is rich in lauric and oleic acids, plus a natural source of vitamin A and vitamin C. In addition to the skin nutrient profile, murumuru butter also helps to create a protective barrier on the skin and hair, helping to seal in moisture. One differentiating benefit of Murumuru Butter over other butters is that it is considered non-comedogenic. When looking for a highly moisturizing ingredient that will hydrate the skin without clogging pores, Murumuru Butter is an ideal choice. How is Murumuru Butter Sourced? Murumuru Butter is native to the Amazon region and grows on the Astrocaryum Palm tree. Native tribes have harvested this butter for centuries, using it in hair care, skin care and wound care products. It is said that mixing murumuru butter and Buriti oil together can actually help to increase epithelial regeneration, making it an excellent wound healing blend. It is sourced from the seeds of the fruit, so no trees are damaged or destroyed in the process of harvesting. What butter is most similar to Murumuru Butter? The fatty acid profile of murumuru butter is very close to that of cocoa butter, without the super high price tag and without the cocoa butter smell. Utilizing butters and oils with high fat content in your skin and haircare lines helps to increase the moisture retained on the skin and hair. This leaves the skin and hair softer and more hydrated than when using ingredients with less natural fats. Murumuru butter is 48% lauric acid; 26% myristic acid; 13% oleic acid. Is Murumuru Butter good for lip treatments? You may not find a better butter for lip treatments than Murumuru Butter! Seriously, this butter is so rich and smooth, incorporating it into lip balms, lip glosses, lip scrubs and facial creams/lotions that can also be applied to the lips is the way to go. This is all because of its high lauric, myristic and oleic acid content and smooth skin feel. Unlike many traditional lip care ingredients, like paraffin or mineral oil, murumuru butter doesn’t just sit on top of the lips. Murumuru Butter actually penetrates the dermal layer, delivering moisture deeper into the cellular level. This fully hydrates the skin, helping to treat dry skin and preventing chapped lips. The high oleic acid content also helps to restore natural elasticity to the skin and lips. Oleic acid is highly penetrative, meaning it does not stay on the surface but rather goes into the skin, delivering moisture and helping to increase effectiveness of other ingredients. You can add murumuru butter to our lip balm base, creating your custom lip balm. Our lip balm base can be used as a lip balm, or you can increase the amount of oils and butters used in it to alter the finished texture and use it as a lip treatment cream or even an exfoliant by adding in oils and scrubs like sugar or blackberry seed. What makes murumuru butter ideal for skincare? On top of the high fatty acid profile of murumuru butter, it is also a natural source of vitamins a and c. Vitamin A in skincare helps to fight free radials, reducing the appearance of wrinkles, and boosting natural collagen production. Regular use of vitamin a products, both plant derived and synthetically derived, helps to create smoother skin with less signs of aging. Vitamin C helps to brighten the skin, also boosting natural collagen production, and helping to create a more even skin tone. Here are some of our other vitamin c ingredients that can be paired with Murumuru Butter to help increase the skin brightness: Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil Organic Rosehip Seed Oil Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate Ascorbic Acid Niacinamide Vitamin B3 Organic Pomegranate Seed Oil Moringa Oil Kakadu Plum Oil Why should you use murumuru butter in hair care? The rich, luxurious feel of murumuru butter adds great emollience and smoothing properties to hair care products. The high lauric acid content in murumuru butter makes it especially effective in hair care. Lauric acid has been shown to actually penetrate the hair shaft, allowing better moisture retention This helps to seal the hair follicle, creating softer, more manageable hair. If you’re creating shampoo and conditioner bars, or leave-in conditioning treatments, murumuru butter is ideal. You can melt and add to your conditioner bars at just 5% to increase the smoothing and conditioning effects on the hair. The high fatty acid content in murumuru butter also helps to increase shine. When using in hair care applications, the suggest levels of usage are: 5-10% for softness and manageability 10-15% for deeper conditioning 1-5% for leave in products How to add murumuru butter to our shampoo or conditioner bar bases? Simply melt murumuru butter with your other oils and butters, then add to our shampoo or conditioner base. Ideal percentage is 5-10%, depending on what other oils and butters you are using. Murumuru butter does have a silky skin-feel, so this will help to increase the softness of your product on your clients’ fingers when they are applying the shampoo or conditioner. Pair with other highly moisturizing ingredients such as Olive Oil Eco Silicone, Natural 1,3 Propanediol, Organic Sacha Inchi Oil and Olive Oil Squalane to really create a hydrating conditioner bar. How to maximize moisturizing effectiveness of murumuru butter? The biggest benefit of murumuru butter is its high moisturizing properties.
