Moynat

Established in Paris in 1849, Moynat is one of the oldest French luxury leather-goods maisons. Founded by Pauline Moynat, the first woman of her time to enter the world of trunk-making, the house quickly became known for its refined trunks and innovative travel accessories. Her creations—including wardrobe trunks designed for comfortable travel, as well as picnic trunks and cutlery cases crafted for elegant outdoor dining—helped shape a new era of modern travel. Pauline Moynat’s pioneering spirit defined the identity of the maison. In an industry dominated by men, she brought a singular vision that continues to inform the house’s discreet yet distinctive character today. Written by French journalist Anne Boulay, Moynat explores the house’s unique balance of artistic expression and mastery. The book highlights Moynat’s sophisticated use of color, a hallmark that later inspired its collaborations with celebrated artists such as Kazumasa Nagai, Mark Hearld, Lucia Liu, Michael Samuels, and Kasing Lung. Each collaboration brings a fresh perspective to the maison’s most iconic bags and accessories. Richly illustrated with archival and original photography, this fashion coffee table book follows follows the evolution of a heritage house that remains independent, understated, and deeply rooted in craftsmanship. Moynat reflects a maison that continues to honor its legacy while defining its own path in the world of luxury.
