Mountain paperweight

The Woud Mountain Paperweight transforms the humble desk accessory into this compelling sculptural piece that actually makes you want to keep it visible. Designer Tina Schmidt carved solid travertine into these abstract mountain silhouettes that somehow capture that serene feeling you get when looking at distant peaks - it's this sense of calm presence that's hard to describe but definitely real when you handle it. At 7.7 inches long and weighing almost 3 pounds, this isn't some lightweight trinket that slides around your desk; it has genuine heft that keeps papers securely in place while looking more like art than office supplies. The natural travertine stone shows unique patterns and textures in each piece, so yours will have its own character rather than being identical to everyone else's. What makes the Mountain really versatile is how it works equally well as functional tool and decorative object depending on where you place it. On your desk, it handles paperwork duties with authority while adding visual interest to what's usually a pretty boring workspace. On a bookshelf or console table, it becomes this intriguing sculptural element that invites closer inspection - the intersecting planes create different silhouettes depending on your viewing angle, and the stone's natural variations catch light in interesting ways throughout the day. You can even use it as a cookbook stand in the kitchen or prop up books you're currently reading, since the substantial weight and stable base provide solid support without looking awkward in non-office settings. Woud approaches design from Denmark with founders Mia and Torben Koed connecting international talent with Scandinavian design principles, and Tina Schmidt embodies this philosophy perfectly. Working from Prague, Schmidt brings her unique perspective as both a trained product designer and occupational therapist to create objects that feel satisfying to use and interact with daily. Since founding in 2014, Woud has built their reputation on collaborating with designers who understand that the best accessories should enhance everyday routines rather than just filling space, creating pieces that work as both functional tools and meaningful objects that bring a sense of calm and intentionality to whatever room they inhabit.
