Mountain Magazine Holder

The Woud Mountain Magazine Holder takes the basic idea of storing magazines and turns it into this beautiful sculptural piece that actually makes your living space more interesting. Designer Tina Schmidt carved solid travertine into these abstract mountain-like forms that somehow capture that feeling you get when you're looking at distant peaks - there's this sense of calm and presence that's hard to describe but definitely real. At 15 inches wide and weighing over 15 pounds, this isn't some flimsy organizer that'll tip over when you slide a heavy coffee table book into it. The natural travertine stone has this rich, textured surface where every piece shows unique patterns and variations, so yours will be genuinely one-of-a-kind rather than just another mass-produced storage solution. What's really smart about the Mountain is how it works just as well as art when it's empty as it does when it's full of reading material. The intersecting panels create these interesting negative spaces and sight lines that change depending on where you're viewing it from, and the stone construction means it ages beautifully rather than looking worn after regular handling. You can use it beside your favorite reading chair for magazines and books you're currently working through, or place it on a console table where it functions more as sculpture that happens to hold the occasional publication. The substantial weight means it stays put on smooth surfaces, and the natural stone is forgiving about dings and scratches - they just add character rather than looking like damage. Woud builds from Denmark with founders Mia and Torben Koed focusing on connecting international designers with Scandinavian design principles, and Tina Schmidt represents this collaboration perfectly. Working from Prague, Schmidt brings a unique perspective to Nordic minimalism through her dual background in furniture design and occupational therapy - she actually studies how people interact with objects, which explains why the Mountain feels so satisfying to use and look at. Since founding in 2014, Woud has built their reputation on working with designers who understand that the best furniture and accessories should enhance daily rituals rather than just filling space, creating pieces that feel both artful and purposeful without calling unnecessary attention to themselves.
