Moonlight White: Yue Guang Bai

Moon Light White, also known as Yue Guang Bai, is a remarkable tea from Yunnan, China, known for its unique processing method and exquisite flavor profile. Unlike traditional Yunnan white teas, which are typically sun-dried, Moon Light White is harvested during the late evening hours, where the leaves are plucked under the moonlight and then withered and dried indoors. This method prevents the leaves from being exposed to sunlight, allowing for a slow, gentle oxidation that develops the tea’s distinctive flavors. The appearance of Moon Light White is as striking as its name suggests. The leaves display a bright, silvery underside contrasted by a dark, deep green upper side, reflecting the dual nature of the half-moon—simultaneously showcasing both light and dark. This visual contrast is part of what makes this tea so visually appealing. The aroma and flavor of Moon Light White are equally captivating. The scent evokes sweet cream with a hint of violet blossoms, while the flavor is rich and complex, reminiscent of dessert custard with a touch of oaty streusel and perhaps a hint of tropical fruit, such as mango. The tea offers a full, rich mouthfeel, especially for a white tea, with a lingering finish that reveals a classic huigan—a deep, sweet aftertaste that appears a minute or two after sipping.
