This original 1970 Italian theatrical poster was issued for the first release in Italy of the Hammer science fiction film Moon Zero Two, directed by Roy Ward Baker. The film reimagines the western genre in outer space, blending frontier mythology with futuristic spectacle and positioning the moon as a lawless new territory. Produced by Hammer Film Productions, the story follows asteroid miners, bounty hunters, and criminal intrigue in a lunar settlement imagined as the year 2021. The cast includes James Olson, Catherine von Schell as Clementine Taplin, Warren Mitchell, Adrienne Corri, Ori Levy, Dudley Foster, and Bernard Bresslaw. The film is noted for its ambitious special effects created by Les Bowie, which helped bring its lunar gunfights and space vehicles to life. The artwork was created by Renato Casaro, whose dynamic realism and dramatic color sense defined Italian cinema posters of the late nineteen sixties and seventies. Casaro’s composition emphasizes scale, tension, and human vulnerability against the vastness of space, making this poster both a striking piece of science fiction imagery and a standout example of Italian graphic design from the period.
