Moon Globe - 12-inch

Explore the Moon, Earth’s closest celestial body, captured in this all new, updated, highly-detailed 12” desktop globe.  It's the most complete and feature-filled globe of its kind. Just a decade ago, NASA launched what is arguably the most successful robotic lunar explorer in the history of human spaceflight - the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO).  Now, LRO has cemented itself as one of the most prolific NASA missions to date.  The craft has not only mapped the Moon's surface in terrific detail, achieving over 98 percent coverage, it's also made a host of scientific discoveries that will inform and inspire lunar research and exploration for years to come. The majority of LRO’s seven main instruments were designed to bring the lunar surface into sharper focus than ever before. LRO circles the Moon’s poles multiple times each day and studies the surface through a host of different wavelengths, including infrared, ultraviolet, and optical. These observations have revealed a slew of intriguing sites ripe for future human exploration. Now you, too, can study the surface of the moon using these comprehensive images along with 1,473 of the most notable surface features and landing spots identified and labeled. This richly detailed, injection-molded 12" globe shows 687 notable features and and top mission landing sites in the northern hemisphere and 786 in the southern hemisphere. Each globe is made of long-lasting durable plastic with just a single seam between hemispheres and comes with a clear acrylic display base and informational flyer.
