Situated adjacent to the Balvenie Distillery, Kininvie Distillery is one of the youngest distilleries in Scotland, having begun production of Scotch Whisky only 23 years ago. As a result of its location and shared ownership, much of the equipment used to produce Kininvie Single Malt Whisky is housed within the Balvenie Distillery complex, although the equipment is maintained and operated independently. To date, Kininvie Distillery has only released two single malt whiskies, and most of the whisky it produces is used for blends such as Monkey Shoulder. TASTING NOTES Nose: Marmalade, cocoa and malt. Along with vanilla and nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon Palate: Malty, toasted barley, cloves and butterscotch. Taste of honey, and dried apricot. Finish: Spicy oak with a bit of peppermint. "A blend of some of the finest single malts in Scotland's Speyside region, known for incredibly soft, smooth and sweet whiskies." — Chicago Tribune "Grade: A-. By and large it’s a classic Speyside whisky. The big malty character offers light, brown-sugar sweetness, backed by notes of heather and, intriguingly, distinct touches of iodine. Undernearth that you’ll find cooked fruits, chewy toffee, and notes of incense. It’s more exotic than you’d think. I keep going back to this malt . . . it’s an easy whisky to like but one that invites tons of discovery. Keep an eye out for it." — DrinkHacker The vatting of three different single malt whiskies, Monkey Shoulder Scotch earned the Gold Medal at the International Wine & Spirits Competition.
