Monaco 19" Backgammon Set

Details & Dimensions 19" Backgammon Set in Raffia, Leather & Marble Resin — Graphite, Orange & Ivory Backgammon is one of the oldest games in the world. The Monaco makes it feel like it was invented yesterday. The case arrives in natural raffia — woven tight and pale as a summer hat on the Riviera — edged in leather and fastened with a single brass stud closure that opens to reveal a playing field of genuine drama: a deep graphite ground with alternating points in burnt orange and soft white, the color palette of a grand prix podium translated into something you'd want on your coffee table permanently. The checkers are cast in marble resin — ivory on one side, swirling black marble on the other — substantial enough in the hand to feel like objects rather than game pieces. The doubling cube is bone-colored and cleanly numbered; the dice, black and white, roll with the satisfying weight of things made to last. The interior brass hinges are precise; the felt-lined checker trays, generous. At 19 inches open, it commands whatever surface it occupies — and folds back into an object handsome enough to display on a bar cart shelf or coffee table stack between games. Place on a games table or writing desk in a well-appointed guest room — it signals the kind of host who thinks of everything. This is not a game set purchased for the game. It is purchased for the life it implies.
