The elevated prong setting holds the moissanite securely while letting maximum light reach the stone from every angle, creating the signature Lumière fire. Learn More Everything you need to know What is moissanite? Moissanite is a gemstone originally discovered in a meteor crater by Nobel Prize-winning scientist Henri Moissan in 1893. Because the natural version is extremely rare, the moissanite used in jewelry today is lab-created — grown under controlled conditions to match the natural stone's structure with flawless consistency. Visually, it's almost impossible to distinguish from a diamond. It actually has more brilliance and fire than a diamond (a higher refractive index), making it sparkle more intensely in the light. Moissanite also ranks 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale (diamond is 10), making it one of the most durable gemstones available — perfect for everyday wear, including rings you won't take off. Moissanite vs. diamond — what's the difference? Visual difference: moissanite has more fire (rainbow sparkle) than diamond. Most people — even jewelers — can't tell them apart without professional equipment. Price difference: moissanite typically costs 10–20% of what you'd pay for a diamond of the same size and quality. That's why you can wear a 1-carat certified stone in a beautifully crafted solitaire without three months of salary. Durability: moissanite is 9.25/10 on the Mohs scale (diamond is 10/10). For daily wear, the difference is essentially zero. Ethics: all MOISS moissanite is lab-created, meaning no mining, no environmental damage, and no supply-chain ethics issues. Is this a good engagement ring? Yes — the Lumière was designed with engagement in mind, and it's one of the most popular choices among couples who want the diamond look without the diamond price. A few reasons the Lumière works beautifully as an engagement ring: Classic solitaire shape — the most recognizable engagement silhouette in fine jewelry, chosen over and over again for its timeless appeal. 1CT size — substantial enough to have visible presence, delicate enough to feel elegant on any hand. GRA certification — comes with paper proof of the D color and VVS clarity, so you know exactly what you're giving. Photographs beautifully — indistinguishable from a diamond in photos, which matters more than ever. Many couples choose the Lumière as their main ring and invest the diamond-savings in the honeymoon, the home, or simply the life they're building together. What does GRA certified mean? GRA stands for Gemological Research Association — an independent lab that tests and certifies the authenticity and grade of moissanite and diamond gemstones. A GRA certificate confirms the color grade, clarity, cut, and carat weight of your stone. Every MOISS piece ships with its authentic GRA certificate in the box — so you always have a paper proof of what you're wearing. How should I style it? The Lumière solitaire is designed to be worn three ways: Solo as a statement — the classic 1CT solitaire silhouette speaks for itself on any finger, any occasion. Paired with a matching wedding band — a simple sterling silver band sits perfectly against the solitaire's polished profile. Stacked with a chevron or eternity ring — the V-shape of our Celeste Chevron wraps elegantly around the Lumière for the designer bridal stack look. Worn on the ring finger for traditional engagement/wedding styling, or on the middle finger as a modern statement piece. How do I find my ring size? Not sure of your size? Here's the easiest way to measure at home: Wrap a thin strip of paper or string around the base of the finger where you'll wear the ring. Mark the point where the strip overlaps. Measure the length in millimeters — that's your finger circumference. Compare with a standard ring size chart (widely available online). If you're between sizes, we recommend sizing up. Fingers tend to swell slightly in warm weather or at the end of the day. Buying as a surprise gift? Borrow one of her existing rings (worn on the same finger) and measure its inner diameter in millimeters — or have a jeweler size it discreetly. How do I care for my ring? Moissanite and sterling silver are both durable, but a few habits keep your ring looking new for years: Remove before showering, swimming, or working out — chlorine and sweat can dull the finish over time. Clean gently with warm water and mild soap, then dry with a soft cloth. Store in the pouch or box your ring came in, away from other metal jewelry that could scratch the prong setting. Put it on last when getting ready — after perfume, lotions, and hairspray. Have the prongs inspected annually if you wear it daily — prongs can loosen over time with heavy use.
