Missing Art Studies - 1776 | paire 007 - Black Revolutionary War Soldiers  Portrait No. 007 of 250 Companions of Liberty is Walt & Pete®’s landmark collection of 250 historically inspired portraits created to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the United States. Through museum-quality artistic interpretation informed by Revolutionary War research, the series highlights overlooked stories, daily experiences, and acts of service that shaped the founding era while encouraging a broader understanding of American history. This portrait depicts two Black soldiers of the Continental Army seated outside a canvas tent within a Revolutionary War encampment. One soldier passes a cleaning cloth while the other receives it during the maintenance of military equipment. Muskets, tools, storage chests, and camp supplies surround the figures, emphasizing the practical routines that sustained armies in the field. In the background, additional soldiers gather near campfires and tents beneath an overcast sky. The composition focuses on the realities of camp life rather than combat, presenting a historically inspired view of preparation, discipline, and everyday military service during the late years of the American Revolution. Why These Stories Matter The American Revolution was shaped not only by battlefield victories but also by the countless daily tasks performed by ordinary soldiers. Preserving and interpreting stories inspired by Black participants in the Revolutionary era helps expand public understanding of the diverse people who contributed to the nation's founding while encouraging continued historical research and appreciation.
