Misselthwaite Mitts Pattern

This past fall I read, for the first time in my life, the book The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. It is one of those books that you've heard about forever, probably seen the movie version of, and just think you "know," somehow. But I didn't, and reading it as an adult was strangely moving, and inspired me to design a flurry of craft projects and bath products inspired by the lovely places, characters, and events that take place within its enchanting pages. You can read more about my inspiration in this blog post. A robin, blackberries and blossoms, an ivy leaf, and a hidden key: The sweet motifs embroidered on this little pair of fingerless mitts are done in duplicate stitch. Knit flat, then embroidered, then stitched up the side with openings left for the thumbs, these handwarmers are perfect to wear at winter’s end, when the soils are just starting to warm and the smell of new growth is in the air. Knit with hand-dyed single-ply fingering-weight 100% Merino yarn, they are easy to make and so soft. Finished size of mitts: 3.25"h by 8.35"h (8cm x 20cm); to fit average adult woman's hand This pattern includes: Knitting instructions Illustrated stitch tutorial for making duplicate stitches Color charts indicating placement of duplicate stitches You will need: One 115g (434yd) skein of single-ply fingering-weight Merino yarn in silvery green Small amounts of various colors of fingering-weight yarns Size US 1.5 (2.5mm) needles, or size needed to match gauge Yarn needle Row counter   ERRATA NOTICE: **Please be advised that there is a mistake in the original version of this pattern, which you could have downloaded here previous to January of 2020. On the Bottom Ribbing of the left handwarmer, Row 1 should read: Row 1 (WS): P1, K2, (P2, K2) to last 3 stitches, P3. The original version transposed the (P2, K2) and was written (K2, P2). My sincere apologies for the error. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you! Alicia Paulson
