Miscanthus Lady in Red

Bring a touch of high-fashion sophistication to your garden with the Miscanthus ‘Lady in Red’ (Miscanthus sinensis 'Lady in Red'). This exceptional cultivar of Maiden Grass is widely celebrated for having some of the most intense color transitions in the ornamental grass world. While many grasses wait until the frost to change, 'Lady in Red' begins its show early, providing a multi-season performance that anchors the landscape with movement and grace. A Symphony of Color In the spring and summer, the foliage emerges with a unique, moody blend of dark purple and deep forest green. As the days begin to shorten, the transformation is nothing short of astonishing. The blades shift into a brilliant, glowing red that captures the autumn light beautifully. In September, the plant is topped with feathery, silvery-white plumes that dance above the red foliage, creating a striking contrast that lasts well into the winter months. Sophisticated Structure and Movement Growing to a tidy, upright height of over five feet, 'Lady in Red' provides the perfect amount of vertical drama without becoming unruly. Use it as a focal point in a mixed border, or plant several in a row to create a soft, swaying privacy screen that whispers in the wind. Its fine texture and arching habit add a sense of softness to hardscapes and patio containers alike. Effortless Landscape Performance Beyond its beauty, this Miscanthus is a workhorse. It is notably resistant to pests and diseases, and its tough blades are rarely bothered by browsing deer. Whether you are looking to add "winter interest" to a snowy landscape or a "pop of fire" to your fall garden, 'Lady in Red' delivers high-impact results with very little effort from the gardener.
