Miscanthus Gracillimus (Maiden Grass)

Lush, Eye-Catching Texture Why Miscanthus Gracillimus? A popular variety of ornamental grass also known as Chinese Silver Grass or Maiden Hair Grass, the Miscanthus Gracillimus makes a beautiful accent for your yard and landscaping. Alongside long, graceful blades of grass, the Miscanthus Gracillimus emerges with vibrant, purple-toned flower plumes in summer, adding color and dimension. The feathery plumes change to a light silver-white as they mature, for eye-catching interest through fall and winter. This Maiden Grass grows in a dense, fountain-like cluster. They can reach anywhere from 5-6 feet tall, and extend 3-4 feet wide. Note that in the US, it is not recommended to grow more than one in close proximity, and it is considered invasive in some states. Most often utilized as an accent plant, you can add the Miscanthus Gracillimus into a shrubbery screen, at the ends of hedges, and along borders, or as a garden accent. This strong grass is pest and disease free, as well as resistant to deer and rabbits. Variety is the spice of life, and the Miscanthus Gracillimus' unique growth adds variety to your landscape from season to season. Its different moods and shapes will hold interest all year. Planting & Care 1. Planting: Plant in an area with full to partial sun (4-8 hours of sunlight per day). Select a location with well-drained soil and dig a hole that's large enough to accommodate your Maiden Grass root ball. After you've planted, mulch the surrounding area and water to settle the roots. 2. Watering: Water weekly, or more often in extreme heat or drought. If you plant your Maiden Grass in containers, you'll also want to water more frequently. Check the soil and water when soil is dry to the touch two inches down. 3. Pruning: Cut back your Maiden Grass in the winter to a height of about 6 inches, before new growth appears.
