Ferberite (multi-twinned specimen!)

This was one of the very few multi-twinned pieces from the find of these amazing specimens in June of 2010. This species was sometimes previously referred to as "Wolframite", which was supposed to be an intermediary species between Ferberite and Hubnerite, but has since been discredited. This exquisite piece features sharp, highly lustrous, jet black blades of Ferberite which are twinned along the a {100} face. It is not a simple twinned specimen, as it hosts THREE individual twins which are beautifully intergrown. The piece has a “rub” towards one of the corners but, considering that the large majority of Ferberites from Tasna have serious damage problems, this one is in great shape (especially for the size). The luster is better than most Ferberites from this mine. Like many Ferberites, the piece looks better in person, especially when you can hold it in your hands and rotate it in the light to see all three twins. Bolivian Ferberites (especially those from Tasna) are often and sadly underrated/overlooked, but in many instances will surpass other Ferberites from Yaogangxian or Panasqueira for size and quality. For the size, quality, and the fact that there are THREE DISTINCT TWINS together, this is a special piece. Specimen # BOL711B77
