Vietnam War Era Boonie Cap with In-Country “Playboy Vietnam - Tuy Hoa” Insignia

This is an Vietnam War–era boonie cap featuring highly sought-after in-country–made cloth insignia, including a blue “Playboy Vietnam - Tuy Hoa” bunny patch, accompanied by matching “VIETNAM” and “TUY HOA” rocker patches. These locally produced patches were never official issue and were instead privately purchased and worn by U.S. servicemen while deployed, making surviving examples particularly scarce and historically significant. The Playboy bunny motif is among the most iconic pieces of Vietnam War soldier culture, representing morale, individuality, and the unofficial expressions of identity common among troops stationed overseas. The Tuy Hoa reference ties this piece directly to the Tuy Hoa Air Base region in South Vietnam, adding clear geographic context. The patches display period-correct construction and materials, consistent with in-country tailoring and local Vietnamese manufacture. The boonie cap itself shows honest wear consistent with age and use, further supporting its authenticity and period origin. This example stands as an excellent display piece and a strong addition to any Vietnam War militaria collection, especially for collectors focused on unit culture, in-country insignia, or personalized field gear.
