Midnight Visitor

SOUNDTRACK: Step inside a million-year vantage point. Midnight Visitor is John LaCasse’s moving memoir of a battle-scarred, six-pound black cat named Silas Nightwind who completely rewrote the rules of his life. A deeply personal story of loyalty, love, and loss, it explores a porous boundary where deep trauma heals and connection becomes cosmic. Midnight Visitor by John LaCasse is a deeply moving memoir that explores the profound, unexpected bond between humans and animals. The story begins on a stormy night when a tiny, battle-scarred black cat seeks shelter at the author's home. Despite a severe cat allergy, LaCasse and his wife, Christine, welcome the mysterious guest into their lives, christening her Silas Nightwind. The narrative shifts dynamically when a routine veterinary visit reveals a surprising past: Silas is female, declawed, and microchipped, briefly entangling the couple in a custody mystery before her previous owner officially relinquishes her. Truly choosing LaCasse as her family, Silas weaves herself tightly into their household, proving to be a resilient survivor. She miraculously endures a brutal accident that leaves her with a cracked skull and permanent physical traits, yet her fierce, vibrant spirit remains entirely unbroken. As the years unfold, Silas evolves from a hyper-vigilant, traumatized rescue into an intuitive companion and a fixture of comforting daily rituals. More than just a pet memoir, the book explores deeply personal themes of loyalty, love, and loss, juxtaposing the cat's silent communion against a heavy family trial—the tragic ALS diagnosis of the author's son, John Patrick. Seamlessly blending science, metaphysics, and ancient history, LaCasse reflects on consciousness, evolutionary continuity, and the porous boundaries of connection. Ultimately, this narrative is an evocative testament to resilience, showing how a five-ounce cinnamon roll of fur can teach profound lessons about trust, mercy, and presence. by John LaCasse Page Count: 64 Trim Size: 6 x 9 Publish Date: August 6, 2026 Imprint: Sunbury Press Genre: Metaphysical Memoir BIOGRAPHY & AUTOBIOGRAPHY / Memoir PETS / Cats / General SOCIAL SCIENCE / Body Language & Nonverbal Communication
