Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a location with full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil. In warmer zones, plant in morning sun with afternoon shade for best growth. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and just as deep. Before planting, remove any temporary bamboo stake and ties. Staking is not usually needed, but trees may be staked for up to 6 months in windy climates. Drive a wood or metal stake into the ground just outside the root ball and secure the tree with soft, flexible ties. Backfill with a mixture of native soil and compost. Spread a 3-inch settled layer of mulch at least 3 feet around the tree, keeping mulch several inches away from the trunk. Water deeply after planting. 2. Watering: Water regularly for the first few months after planting to encourage root establishment. Once established, this tree is somewhat drought-tolerant but benefits from deep watering during dry spells. Aim to keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. 3. Pruning: Prune during the late dormant season to remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches. This will help maintain the tree's shape and promote healthy growth. Regularly check for any suckers that may develop at the base and trim them as necessary. 4. Fertilizing: Feed with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to support growth and foliage vibrancy. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for application rates, and be cautious not to over-fertilize, as this can harm the plant.
